A quiet few nights

The highs of the end of March have not been repeated, but interesting things have been heard just the same.

880 Radio Unión in Lima, Peru was heard with an extended religious programme.

820 Radio Nacional Formosa in Argentina was heard. This may not have bene heaqrd before in New Zealand. Formose is a small state at the top of Argentina and sits just under Paraguay. Give we have receiving good coverage of Radio Nacional Del Paraguay, I wasn't entirley surprised to hear it. Unfortunately, the quality of the signal wasn't very good, but it was confirmed against the website.

There have been amny other teasing glimpses of what is there, but signlas have dropped off a bit leaving the locals to dominate the bands.

More Latins

A great night for Argentinian, Uruguayan and Paraguayan stations.

Heard tonight were:

840 Radio Bahia Blanca (Argentina) poor/ fair with music.
850 Radio Carve (Uruguay) a good signal with music
870 Radio Nacional, Buenos Aires (Argentina) at fair levels at best.
920 Radio Nacional del Paraguay (Paraguay) up and down but not bad when up.
930 Radio Monte Carlo (Uruguay) fair with vocals // to their website.
1030 Radio del Plata (Argentina) fair signal but very bad splash from 1026 and 1035.
1050 Radio San Francisco (Argentina) not a strong signal - audible when 1044 had brief silent moments. Music was // their wesite. At 0857 another came up with announcements, but nothing tangible.

I will send reports off to Radio Nacional BA and Radio del Plata.

Latins galore

Yesterday evening saw a number of stations from Argentina and Uruguay on the AM bands. A friend from further south in the country reports there were also Brazilians around, but alas, I did not hear them.

Reports have gone out to Radio Carve (Uruguay) 850 kHz and Radio Continental (Argentina) on 590 kHz. Both were heard at good levels. The former gave a wonderful id and the latter was identified via their website.

I am not holding my breath for a verification, but .... here's hoping.

In addition to this Radio Bahia Blanca (Argentina) was there on 840 mixed with Radio Salta (Argentina) - both were dientified via their website.

The best of the evening was to be had on 1400 where Radio Zorrilla de San Martin (Uruguay)  was fighting it out with Radio Cumbre (Argentina - 1kw). There was a third station there as well, but we could not identify it.

In recent days I have also logged Radio Voz Missionaria on 5939.54 and 9665 and Radio Nove de Julho on 9818.74. Reports have been sent but again, my breath is not being held.

Stay Safe

Here in New Zelaand we are under a four week lockdown due to the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic, which is sweeping the world.

The government eventually got its act together and has responded in a very positive fashion. It is quite bizarre to go up form ouor house in Titirangi (Auckland) onto the main road and have no cars go past. It is a surreal situation.

I went to the supermarket yesterday and queued up outside to be one of the 50 shoppers allowed into the (large) supermarket at one time.

Maureen and I are safe and well and I hope wherever you are in the world you are too. This is not a situation to be taken lightly, neither is it something to be greatly worried about - if you follow the advice given by the health authorities. Economically the world may not be the same again, but as long as we are healthy, it is of secondary importance.

To people in the United States - I am sorry you have an emotionally retarded, narcissitic, spreader of falsehoods in charge of your country. Listen to your local governors who seem to have a more realistic handle on what is happening.

A verie

KDLG 670 kHz in Dillingham, Alaska has come back with an email verie. The verie signer is Sam and the email address is info@kdlg.org

I am very pleased with this one.

Lots of loggings

Last evening (Sept 18th) I decided instead of going to bed rdiiculously early, I would have a listen on the League's SDR. What a bonanza for the MW DXer.

I logged KDLG 670 kHz in Dillingham, Alaska - 11,000 km from the League's antenna. Its signal was good and clear.

Here is a list of what I heard:

590     0853   HAWAII, KSSK excellent with ads for Pearl Harbor activities. 
630     0855   UNKNOWN, quite audible under NZ stations.
650     0810   HAWAII, KPRP fair with Tagalog speaking, ads and mixed, but dominant, with

another - possibly Alaskan?? 

660     0815   USA, KAPS fair with c & w singing. Bad splash from 657. 0857 went back to it –

more c & w mx then down. Back up, but not great at 0906. Song being played //with website. 

670     0819   ALASKA, KDLG fair with mx prgm. Steady signal. // with website. Annoying 
thing was they were listing the songs being played, but they didn’t relate to what was actually being played!
780     0810   ALASKA, KNOM good with talk. 
850     0804   ALASKA, KICY fair with signing in RR. // with website. 
880     0753   USA, KRVN Fair/ good with talk. Good id at 0759 
890     0801   ALASKA, KBBI poor and mixed. Mx being played was // with website. 

 I only listened for a short while and probably missed other, just as juicy signals. It is amazing what the 12m delta antenna can pick up. 

For only $10 a year, members can access this SDR. Amazing value. 

At last a verie and a logging

It has been a long time since I listened to the radio - this obviously means no reports have gone out. However, I have received a verie - Radio Romania International on 11990.

I have also logged KLO 1430 AM in Ogden, Utah. I have heard them occasionally, but KVVN and KMRB normally dominate the frequency. I have sent an email report off with a short sound clip, so hopefully, I might strike it lucky.
