Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog.

My wife and I relocated to Mangawhai, Northland, New Zealand - just over 100 km north of Auckland in July of 2018. Whilst not as active as I would like to be, this is a record of what I have been hearing.

India comes calling

Back in January (3rd to be precise) I logged AIR vioa Bengaluru on 15030 - not a difficult catch. I received a QSL card today, which was dated 14/6/2023. So, for an emailed report, it took them 6 months to process it! Anyway, I am grateful - the verie has arrived.

More SW Veries

I am not hearing much that is new on MW at present, although I did hear a Peruvian recently. However, on SW I heard a few things.

Radio Ifrikya FM comes in well at around 2315 on 13590 and 13790. I logged it on June 25 at 2330 UTC and the verification came back via Facebook Messenger on June 27.

It is also a new country for me. I thought I had verified Algeria years ago, but a check has revealed I haven't, and so it is country no. 115 for me.

The station was heard on The NZ Radio DX League's SDR2 located here in Mangawhai. I had a listenon SDR3 based in Hinahina (ion the deep south) but the signal was poor.

A new Shortwave Verie

Radio Senda Cristiana in Peru is now broadcasting its own programmes on 4820 kHz. It comes in very well here in New Zealand and I was delighted to get a verification from them via MSN Messenger.

I am currently in Hinahina with our host Steven Greenyer, DX League Patron Sutton Burtenshaw and DX League President Arthur DeMaine. Conditions are not great, but we have heard a bit. What is annoying is that you get glimpses of what can be heard here and that is frustrating.

A Shortwave Verie

Radio Logos 4810 kHz 1 kw in the Andes of Peru comes in quite well at times and I was fortunate to hear it a couple of nights ago. I was able to record a bit of it and could identify one song. I sent an email to them with my reception report - written in Spanish and I also sent it via their Facebook page. I was delighted to get a message back this morning verifying my report. The verie signer was Jairo Sangama Saurin.

I have previously verified Radio Unión on 6115 back in 1980!! So, this is my second Peruvian SW verie and I am pleased to have it.

A new QSL and a new Country

Norfolk Island  5045kHz - Nick Hacko is broadcasting from Norfolk Island. He is VK9DX - what a call sign! He is using 300w maximum and is coming in well in Mangawhai. He has verified my report of this evening. That is a new country for me.

Hinahina Day 4

All good things come to an end and so it is with this DXpedition, but not without a little excitement. Conditions were not great, but some unexpected stations still managed to poke through. Radio Zeta Uno in Guyaquil, Ecuador on 1400 was quite distinguishable and was confirmed via its web link. Radio Cristal also in Guyaquil was also another highlight on 870, once again confirmed by its web link. Radio Programas del Peru made a couple of appearances on 790 and 920. XEQ was the sole Mexican heard on 940.

Thanks to my good friend of very long standing (I was going to say old friend, but it could be misconstrued!) Steven Greenyer. He is a wonderful host, a good friend and an excellent DXer.
