Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog.

My wife and I relocated to Mangawhai, Northland, New Zealand - just over 100 km north of Auckland in July of 2018. Whilst not as active as I would like to be, this is a record of what I have been hearing.

New QSLs arrived today in Mangawhai .... while I am still in Malaysia

QSLs arrived today in our postbox in Mangawhai. All India Radio have verified reports for 15185 and 15770 kHz via Bengaluru and Panaji transmitters, respectively.

Verifications received

Today three QSLs popped into my mailbox from CRI. They are for the frequencies of 13570, 15120 and 17855 kHz.

New Mediumwave Logging

Heard via the League's SDR tonight was CHHA in Toronto Canada on 1610 kHz. Reception was not great - it was quite noisy and as time wore on the Aussie on 1611 came up and made it even worse. A quick check online when a song was being played confirmed my suspicion that it was CHHA.

I am very pleased to have heard it. A report has been sent.

New Shortwave Loggings

China Radio International was logged today on 13570, 15120 and 17855 kHz. The signals were fair to good. 13570 and 15120 suffered from atmoshperic noise, while 17855 was a good and clear signal.

I also logged Radio Kuwait in Arabic on 15515 kHz. The signal was good but it suffered from atmospheric noise.

New logging

I finally got round to writing a report for my logging of AIR Thiruvananthapuram, a domestic shortwave station, which broadcasts on 5010 kHz. Normally it is not an easy station to hear clearly. On this occasion (logged 5 Feb at 1329 UTC) it was as clear as a bell. The broadcast was in Malayalam, the dominant language in the south western state of Kerala, but had the odd English bit in it, which helped.

I have sent the report to both the Delhi Head Office of AIR and the Kerala office. I have not had any luck with this station in the past, so my fingers are crossed. It is the only readily audible regional station I have not verified.

New loggings and verifications

Last evening I logged China Radio International on 4 frequencies: 5955, 7215, 13590 and 15190 kHz broadcasting in English.

The e-verifications arrived this morning from Ying Lian: thank you.

Recent Shortwave Loggings

I generally prefer to listen to MW, but when conditions are awful, as they regularly are in Malaysia, I turn to SW.

My 3 loggings are: All India Radio 15030 (0330) good signal with Hindi music and then talk in Hindi about ASEAN
TWR Africa from Swaziland 15105 at 1600 - stumbled across this - good signal but awful conditions and thus noise. They were in Kurundi - not a language I am familiar with.
Radio Taiwan International 9405 at 1600, replacing 6185 as of yesterday. Have yet to listen to this one - am writing before I know I have it!

All three were logged in Malaysia from my home QTH using my WinRadio G33-DDC and a 4 metre EWE.
